Dowdy’s SS16 Freestall Filler/ Stall Shooter is designed for the smaller dairies. Like all of our fillers, we try to keep it simple and durable for a longer time of superior service for you. Our concept is simple; we built the box as large as the smaller free-stall barns could accept by dimensions. Then, we figured out what is the most simple and trouble-free way to deliver the bedding, which is a mechanical drive delivery belt with “Heavy Duty Cleats”. The floor needed some way to be protected from overloading or the wrong materials for bedding. So the floor is hydraulically driven and is protected with a relief valve built into the flow control valve itself. The flow control is not often used, at the dairy it is normally used wide open and full steam ahead. But the relief valve will not allow anything to be delivered if it is of the right consistency. This is to protect you the owner from the damaged floor chain or drive from someone putting in what they shouldn’t have. We also figured the simplest way to hook and unhook, with the use of different tractors with different hydraulic outputs is a confusing thing to deal with for the driver. With our filler, one pin, one PTO shaft, one jack and it is ready to go.

This unit will hold 16 CU/YDS per load and will fill about 190 stalls under normal maintenance. per load

This SS30DD Trailer Mount Is Specialty Trailer.

This trailer will carry 30 cu/yds of bedding. It will deliver to the RH of the LH side of the filler to fill the beds. It is an all-hydraulic drive unit for versatility. In this unit, there is a built-in lime dispenser for mixing bedding with the lime for a more effective bacteria-killing situation. There is a catwalk for the workers to load the lime hopper safely. Putting the lime up to the catwalk with a loader or a forklift makes the job manageable. The drive for the lime dispenser comes from the tractor hydraulic plug-in so you can pick and choose which pens to mixer the lime with. The trailer is a heavy-duty independent dual axle assy with torque supports for strength the wheels are extra heavy duty to take the wear and tear.

The filler body is 20Ft long and the tongue is an additional 5-1/2 ft making the unit 25-1/2 Ft overall Length

This unit will hold 30 cu/yds per load and fill about 420 freestall under normal maintenance.

This SS24RS Truck Mount Filler Has The Spreader And Transfer Options On It.

As you can see this unit is all hydraulic drive as all of the truck mount units are. This unit depends on the hydraulics to drive the Floor / Conveyor / Reversing Floor Chain / Spreader Attachment / Spinner Fold-Up. The hydraulic pump is oversized to handle the load for many years to come with ease. The Floor has an electronic speed control to put the desired amount where it needs to go. The crossfeed has an Electronic Speed control also to place the bedding in just the right spot. The hydraulics on this unit gives you so much flexibility to do the job efficiently.

This unit holds 24 cu/yds + per load and will fill about 330 stalls for normal maintenance.

When you buy a complete truck unit from us, We make sure the truck will carry the load. The ground speed is good for filling free stalls. The transmission is changed out to an Allison MT-653 automatic 5 speed with a low 1st gear. Perfect for the dairy freestalls. Frame is the right length to carry the load properly. The heater vent is covered to keep the trash out and you will always be able to have the windshield defroster. The radiator is changed out to a feedlot radiator. External transmission cooler is added to protect the Transmission. A lot goes into getting a truck ready for this application. Missing any one of these will cause problems down the road, resulting in downtime and repair costs. but they are out of the way now.

Our SS26 Open Corral Bedding Trailer

26+ yards capacity, not everyone has free stalls. But bedding needs to be delivered and put down in open corrals for cow comfort in bad weather. This is a simple delivery box that can meter the amount of bedding you want to deliver. The hydraulic power comes from your tractor’s auxiliary hydraulic valve. The flow rate is set by a flow control on the filler to give you the exact amount of bedding delivery desired. The back door inside the hood has mechanical door locks to keep your bedding material from spilling out during travel.

For better distribution of packed bedding materials we have the optional, distribution beater assembly in place of the mechanical door. It rotates to break up packed bedding materials to make a more uniform delivery during discharge.

The draper curtain is there to keep dust to a minimum. We have even added a chain lube system on the trailer to lube your chains after you are done with your bedding to prolong the life of the chains.

The freestall filler options are as broad as your imagination.

We can build fillers that go forward to fill free stalls or to put compost in the tree rows. Reverse to use as a material mover. For proper material placement, we can speed up or slow down the belt and floor speed to place the bedding in just the right spot and the right amount. When building the unit we can make the conveyor deliver to the left or deliver to the right.

We have made a lime dispenser hopper the will run when the unit is delivering bedding to the stalls and mix the lime with the bedding as delivery happens. It also has a variable speed to deliver the proper lime to the bedding ratio.

We now make a spreader attachment for the back of our fillers, trailer or truck-mounted units. This is for spreading “separated manure” in an area to quickly dry for replacement bedding. The spreader does such a good job spreading. The drying time is cut down. So it will increase your bedding pile faster.

We have made another attachment for folding the spreader attachment under the body out of the way to use the rear discharge of the box differently, all things have a purpose.

We have made fillers that have 2 conveyors in the rear to deliver compost equally to the right and the left. For trees and vines. Thru all of this, we have started making what we call “Transfer Boxes” they are built for just for that purpose. Transferring material quick like a chopped silage truck box. But it goes beyond that. With a little modification, they work well as a winter bedding delivery box for open corrals under the shades. You can see more on our SS26 Corral Bedding page.

SS7 S AND BASIC FILLER

These units are 12ft in length, more of a mechanical drive unit. Simple design, self-contained hyd floor drive, mechanical cross feed drives single axle trailer with HD airplane tires to carry the load and be maneuverable in the free stalls. The floor is PVC belting with HD rollers under the belt to support the load. The floor drive speed is adjustable, the cross-feed belt is also a PVC belt with cleats and HD rollers under the belt for support and less power to drive. Direct drive from the PTO driven with a double vee belt, but this filler is only a single direction delivery to the RH side. Speed is adjustable with the tractor RPMs from the tractor is all that is needed to power the unit as you can see in the pictures.

SS12 S And Filler Trailer

This unit is all hydraulic drive, it can fill stalls to the RH or LH side. The filler is equipped with a heavy-duty double hydraulic pump. The floor is a PVC belt and the crossfeed is a PVC belt with cleats. The floor belt drive is a hydraulic drive with an adjustable electronic speed control. The cross-feed belt is driven with 2 hydraulic motors. Speed is adjustable with the tractor RPMs. It also has a valve to reverse the direction of delivery. This unit has a built-in safety valve to keep the cross-feed belt from overloading and placing the bedding in the wrong place. In other words, it protects the system from drivers trying to overload the unit. The standard single axle trailer has HD airplane tires to carry the weight and be more maneuverable in the free stalls, no dragging tires around. PTO from the tractor is all that is needed to power this filler. The electronic floor speed control is attached to the fender with magnets and a power harness is simply installed to the tractor.

The Dowdy's Lime Dispenser For Filler Mounting.

We built the lime dispenser unit for one of our Dairymen. It took several modifications to get it all to work right. Lime can be hard to keep it flowable condition and be able to dispense in the right amounts. This unit can be made as an “add on” as you can see in the pictures or as a “built-in” during the building process. If you wish, we can bring your unit back into the shop to modify the front and install the Lime Dispenser to your existing unit.

The built-in unit can be equipped with a catwalk for your men’s safety while loading and the new units have a built-in bag cutter in the hopper.

All of the units are driven from the auxiliary hydraulics of the tractor so you can turn it on and off at will. For specific pens, full control, always. The flow control is set to your needs to keep the delivery amount always the same while the unit is on.

Horizontal mixer trucks can re-purposed to fill free stalls well. No sense in throwing away a useful piece of equipment that still has a good life ahead of it.
